Turkish and Syrian artists came together for two weeks in December at the UNIQ Gallery in Istanbul. The project, consisting of a workshop and exhibition, is paving the way for artistic communication and future collaborations. The workshop entitled“Open Studio” brought five artists from Syria and five from Turkey in UNIQ Gallery & UNIQ Space. The artists who used Uniq Gallery & Uniq Space as their space of production and participation for two weeks to bring the two neighboring cultures together in their interaction. The exhibition is up at Turkmall Sanat in Istanbul until March 30, 2017.
Some artists worked collaboratively, while others worked in individually in a shared space. Over the course of two weeks, the differences fell away and the group created together - experiencing the transformative power of art. In an open gallery/atelier space visitors came in and out, talking to the artists, observing their creative process. With “Together / Birlikte”, the artists created a space that fostered social and cultural themes and sustainability alongside individual encounters.
