Stories of Syria
03/15/2017
Tonight we open a two week multi-city showing of three short films by Syrian filmmakers. Shakespeare in Zaatari, directed by Maan Mousli chronicles the production of King Lear and Hamlet by the children living in Jordan's largest refugee camp. Suleima, directed by Jalall Maghout, tells the story through the eyes of a young woman of protest in Syria in the days before 2011. Champion, directed by Adnan Jetto follows the arc of change of the word's meaning from sports hero to warrior and martyr. The films are showing in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Washington, DC, and Istanbul.
